The front garden of this converted farmhouse was a relatively blank canvas so the brief was to create a more welcoming space, that delivered visual impact on entry, as well as providing ample space for parking. The existing lawn was removed and replaced with a mix of cottage-garden plants to soften hard landscaping. Specimen trees and topiary were used to add height and form. The design used materials that wholly complement the exterior style of the traditional brick-and-flint house and its surrounding landscape.
Carefully selected hard landscaping materials in the form of clay pavers in a soft palette of mixed colours werre used to form the pathways and edging. Flint gravel added interest and texture to the main driveway as well as echoing the knapped flint of the house itself. A specially commissioned sculpture, Dark Planet by David Harber, was installed to the front of the house to deliver a statement focal point by day and bring a sense of drama by night when the piece is lit from within.
